I'm making an empire valance (9001) for the first time and noticed that the jabot pattern has no markings for pleats or returns. My return size will be 5-1/2". Do I need to make any adjustments?
Thanks!

9001 (revised 1995) instruction for the fullness of the jabot are on page 9 (Step 13). "Gather along the board line from the outside edge to the dot. The gathered area should measure the same as the projection of your board." It reads further "If your projection is very small, you may need to fold and stack several pleats instead of gathering". I would not remove any of the fullness, you need it to give volume to the bottom of the jabot.

I did see those instructions but they didn't really make sense to me. I guess I'm used to the traditional jabot that is folded up and goes over the end of the valance... I've never done a horn/jabot combination before. I'm still in the fabric cutting stage, so when I get to that step I'll post again if I'm still confused.
Thanks!!

You can always switch to a different jabot, but if you do, you have to plan for it to have room on the front of the board. You would also have to plan the execution, in advance. The 9001 jabot fits only on the projected end of the board.
