How do you join bump interlining? Serge?

The seam in a heavy bump may be difficult to control (lay flat). Sometimes it is best to trim away the selvages and overlap the edges, creating a flat seam. I hope others will tell you how they do it.

I prefer to join heavy fabrics and batting with a Flat Lock stitch on my serger, this is the stitch that you see on sweatshirt raglan sleeves. You can also overlap 1/4" and stitch with a 3-step zigzag on your regular machine.

As a retired Home Ec. teacher....I have joined quilt batting sections using a "crosstitch/crosshatch" stitch. kind of like large X's XXXXXXXXXXXX down the seam butting them together using basting thread(serger thread)
