the swag width..is that finished width? so if I have a 25" window, would I use a 34" swag pattern for that? the pattern doesn't tell me what size swag for what size window..

Swag sizes are given on the pattern. That is the finished width. Look at the straight side of the pattern. That is where the sizes are given. That straight side is the center of the swag. You place that on the fold of the fabric or flip it over on the fabric to complete the size and shape. There is no 25" width swag in the package. At the top of the yardage page, the sizes are explained. The package contains patterns for 34" to 54" wide swags only. For wide windows that need multiple swags, page 2 of the booklet explains how to determine your size needed.

i'm aware swag sizes are given on the pattern. i'm aware my pattern comes with swags for 34" to 54" swags. I guess I was silly to think that anyone here could assist me in deciding if a 34" swag would be suitable for a 25" window. 4.5 inches of the rod pocket would stick out on either side of the window. i'm not sure of the placement over a window, beings that there are no drawings or photographs of this window treatment on a window. and i'm sure not going to ask the placement of jabots on a larger window because i'm sure I will just be told to look at the back page of the booklet that came with my pattern. thanks anyways.

I'm sorry you are upset, we really want to help you to understand. The swags and jabots are flat when finished. They have pockets that shirr onto the pole. All pockets should shirr up to 11". When deciding on how wide a single swag will need to be, you must first deduct 11" for each jabot.
If you use a 34" swag on a 25" window, part of the pocket can't just extend past the pole, it would flop down. We do have pattern 9220 that has a rod pocket swag that will extend to 24" wide. Each of those jabots will take up 6" to 8" also.

ok. this is my last try, and then I am going to give up.
my pattern says that the rod pockets gather up to 8 inches apiece. it was my understanding that when the swag was done, with both rod pockets shirred..that it would be 34 inches across? i'm confused because you said that it's 34 inches across when flat.
I thought, if I had a 25 inch window, with a decorative rod hanging past the window on either side that (34 inch finished width - 25 inch window size = 9 inches of swag left divided by 2 sides to the window= 4.5 on each side) if I hung the swag with 4.5 inches of the rod pocket on the outside of the window on a rod pocket so it would not flop down that the 34" swag would work for the 25" window. i'm really not sure if I was mistaken or not now.
a lot of patterns I've used in the past will say "34 inch swag suitable for window sizes such and such to such and such" and I guess that's what I was looking for in this forum. I can make a muslin and figure it out. was just thinking the answer was already figured out and out there somewhere.

I should have asked what pattern you were referring to (pattern #). We have two Easy Pole Swag pattern packages, 9230 (for a 15" swag depth) and 9231 (for an 18" swag depth). I assumed you meant 9231, which shirrs up to 11" pockets. The 9230 pockets shirr up to 8". The swags construction finish up flat, when put on the pole the pockets shirr up. It then finishes at the stated size. Meaning a 34" swag pattern will shirr up to finish at 34" on the pole.
The swags will not hang properly when placed at different widths. If you put the 34" wide swag in a 33" width area, it will hang deeper at the bottom and have a deeper droop area than stated. Spreading the shirred pocket, more or less, will also effect the depths and how it hangs. If you want to extend the pole over a 25" window enough to support a 34" swag, that is fine.
