I am trying to calculate yardage for this pattern. If I am reading the package correctly I would take my rod length and subtract 12" for the jabots on each end. I would then divide this number by the width of the swags (anywhere from 15-24") to get the number of swags I need. My question is do I need to take into account the amount of rod space each horn will take up. For example I have a 78" window, that would mean I take my 78-12 and get 66" for my swags. If I use 4 swags they would be 16.5" when shirred on the rod. If I add up all entire unshirred length of all pieces 2 jabots, 4 swags, 5 horns my unshirred length is 291". I took that from the width measurements of each piece on the back of the pattern. This equates to about a 4X fullness. While my fabric isn't overly heavy I am concerned that all that fabric won't fit on the rod. Would I be better off only using 3 swags at 22" this would give me about a 3X fullness. I don't have the pattern sewing instructions so perhaps the horns are sewn in a way that they don't take up any rod space when complete and the 4 swags would be OK. Any guidance you can give me would be helpful.

Pattern 9229 Victorian Valance: Each jabot takes up 6" of rod space, each swag takes up 15" or up to 24" of rod space. (The more you spread them our, the less full they will look. A 15" wide swag will look fuller than a 24" one.) We usually don't consider the horn in the calculations because they take up only about 2" each. Determine how full you want your swag to look, use more or fewer swag accordingly.
